The research centre has contributed since it has been established in supporting teaching staff members in their departmental research, some of the research problems were the presence of less budget allocated for research, in addition to the absence of the right procedure needed for providing equipment and materials. But in the last five years the speed of scientific research has hastened greatly after the establishment of scientific research deanship.  This new administration improved the regulations of research plan, and initiated a special research budget which is distributed equally between University Research Centre to Support Research for Teaching Staff members and Postgraduate Students.
 
The figures of the budget have increased within the last years greatly and multiplied many times to encourage more research in College of Science.

The increase in research centre budget was accompanied with an equivalent increase in number of research topics submitted by teaching staff members.  This research activity is expected to increase greatly in the next few years.  It should be considered that the budget for a teaching staff member research has been increased from Twenty Five Thousand Riyals (SR25,000) to Thirty Thousand Riyals (SR30,000).  The research centre also initiated an encouraging program directing research to be more comprehensive and applicable to the national needs.  For this attitude the maximum support limit has been increased to Fifty Thousand Riyals (SR50,000).

Scientific research deanship has allocated about 25% of centre budget to support postgraduates’ research, thus encouraging them to complete their scientific thesis, and more support is expected to MSc and Phd students.  It should be noted that there is a noticeable participation of staff members in research supported by research centre and by the college departments and other sources like Sabic, Ministry of Higher Education or King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.
